NIGEL DEVETH has over 28 years experience in managing drilling & blasting services. He was a Director with Straitline Australia P/L for 19 years as a Trainer/ Assessor, Supervisor, Project & Site Manager for surface & underground, ground support and civil works. The company sold in January 2008.

The growth (of DDQ) since March 2008 refl ects Nigel’s proactive approach toward management and developing the best people, equipment and systems. Nigel holds multiple advanced diplomas in Business Management, Project Management, Work Health and Safety, Integrated Risk Management, Drilling Management and a diploma in Quality Auditing.


Nigel oversees all operational areas of the business and is actively involved in developing new business opportunities and client relationships through these roles:

Drill Performance

  • Ensuring equipment matches site requirements
  • Monitoring of equipment to deliver utilisation targets
  • Contract vigilance of equipment performance
  • Constant optimisation of drill schedule to ensure utilisation is achieved

Maintenance and Consumables

  • Monitoring and application of Mex System
  • Diligent management of consumables, stock on hand and costs of parts
  • Communication with OEM and suppliers on improved parts, costs
  • Embedding of maintenance systems to achieve Availabilities.

Business Development

  • Optimising opportunities that fit with the Roc-Drill vision and mission
  • Seeking long term relationships through business councils, OEM’s and mining conferences
  • Performance of due diligence on potential new contracts
  • Partnering with OEM’s on industry developments in technology

People Management

  • Monitoring and feedback on people performance
  • Application and monitoring of training system, policies and procedures
  • Consistent application of Roc-Drill culture
  • Monitoring of all policies and performance

Safety, Health, Environment and Community

  • Monitoring of the Safety, Health, Environment and Community System
  • Review of policies and procedures to ensure legislative compliance
  • Audit on compliance of SHEC System
  • Continued feedback on improvements and performance of the SHEC System

Contract Management

  • Management of budget/costs and monitoring of drill schedule
  • Focus on client relationships and delivery of contract(s)
  • Recording and reporting on performance of operation
  • Compliance of contractual arrangements
