About the System
The Training System is about offering an additional level of expertise for drill operations. It enables clients to build internal expertise to allow for a consistent and sustainable operation for the life of mine.
The Roc-Drill Training System is developed to support Drilling operations. It sets out a structured approach through accreditation and e-learning to ensure operators have the latest information and the most up to date unit of competence. It isn’t just about conducting drilling operations it’s about a process to ensure the operator is well equipped to perform for many years.

Level 1 is designed for new operators entering the Drilling operation. It covers the basics and includes topics such as:
- Introduction to Drilling Operations & Safety Standards
- Understanding Drill Specifications
- Understanding Drill Consumables
- Basic understanding of drill sequence
- Housekeeping of the Drill
- Familiarisation of the Simulator
- Understand Drill Driver tree and key levers
Level 2 is designed for an operator who has had previous experience drilling and will expand on further techniques and understanding.

- Instructions for Tramming
- Understanding and conducting Maintenance operations
- Understanding and Interpreting data system
- Simulator Drill Understanding (L2)
Level 3 is designed for an operator who holds a Drill competency and has been deemed L2 competent
- Introduction to Drilling Operations & Safety Standards > Understanding Drill Specifications
- Understanding Drill Consumables
- Basic understanding of drill sequence
- Housekeeping of the Drill
- Familiarisation of the Simulator
- Understand Drill Driver tree and key levers

- Simulator Drill Understanding (L2)
- Understanding and applying Drilling Fundamentals > Conducting Drilling Operations
- Understanding Drill and maintenance technology and support instruments
- Identify Maintenance issues/items for resolution
- Perform advanced drilling operations
- Apply drill principles to the drill sequence
Level 4 is designed for an operator who is competent in Drilling operations and has been deemed L3 competent
- Perform advanced Drilling Operations
- Apply drill principles to the drill sequence
- Understand advanced Drilling principles and
practices whilst operating the Drill - Conduct maintenance procedures
- Apply Drill sequencing principles
The Level System
It is designed to meet legislative requirements in accordance with the Mining and Quarrying Safety and Health Act 1999 and the Coal Mining Safety and Health Regulation 2001. The Drilling Training System is in accordance with the Australian Quality Training Framework (RII09).
Trainers
Each operator will receive a statement of attainment on completion of the unit of competence and will be recognized within the industry as a proficient drill operator.
